A fresh start

Happy Sunday!

If you're still here after I mentioned the transition, thanks for staying! If you're new to me, welcome!

Late last year, I decided to shift this newsletter to really focus on our (okay, my) life as a whole. My work requires me to help business owners and those in leadership positions to think about "what's next," and that requires more than the usual system-building and documentation work I do.

Work has become many of our identities, and with that, our "personal" identities take a back burner as we climb the ranks. Then, when it's time to let go, all these emotions come up, and we try to hold on when we need to keep moving forward.

I'm hoping this newsletter reminds you that you are still an individual who is allowed to have different pathways, make changes depending on your seasons, and maybe inspire you to do something new.

I'll start the sponsorship portion soon! It would be $15 per slot.

Over the past few months, I've been making some quiet, but meaningful shifts.

I joined a local volleyball team and have played a few games already. I post about it the most on Facebook. In fact, my whole family is signed up or playing a sport, and it's really cool to witness. I even have my kids going to a chiropractor for their overall wellness, like I am.

I stepped back into a board seat of a local nonprofit and will be leading some new initiatives this year, and hopefully solidifying more partnerships for the potential expansion.

I've realized that I wouldn't mind a 9-5 role that aligns with program or partnership management because I really like doing these tasks... and I'm good at them. This is a direction I'm looking at for when I start my exit from The Lazy Millennial.

I'm actively building a local partnership here called the Lowcountry Operations Network. It's still mostly the same, except I'll be adding different types of events and will have a board to help manage them. If you're in the Charleston area, look out for that announcement soon! Make sure you're on the email list as well!

I've decided to keep all of my business tips, tricks, etc. through Lazy Systems Club. I still have it set as a one-time payment and will operate on an "on-demand" schedule. I may add in some lower tiers later this quarter, so if that sounds better to you, stay tuned!

None of these changes came from big breakthrough moments either. I started noticing a bit of friction that made me pause and ask myself if I was having a system breakdown or if I just needed to redesign it a bit.

In my case, it just meant I outgrew my original path, and I'm doing more things that align with what I want to do with my life. And it feels great.

Before I go

Business-wise, I’m narrowing my focus. I’m only working with leaders who know they want their teams to run better, or who are preparing to exit within the next 2–5 years. If this sounds like you, just reply back with the direction you're heading in and what you need assistance with. I'll respond as soon as I can!

This newsletter is where I’ll share what I’m learning as I build systems that support life, not just output.

Thanks for being here at the start of this new chapter =).

Some reminders for you...

  • Friction isn’t always a failure.
Sometimes it’s just a signal that you’ve outgrown the version of life or work you originally designed.
  • You’re allowed to redesign mid-chapter.
Changing direction doesn’t erase what you’ve built; it often means it worked well enough to take you somewhere new.
  • Work doesn’t get to be your whole identity.
Careers evolve. Bodies need movement. Families need presence. Systems should support all of that.
  • Exits don’t start when you’re ready to leave.
They start when you begin noticing what you want more of and build toward that intentionally.
  • Not every shift needs a big announcement.
    Quiet alignment is still progress.
  • A system can stop working even if nothing is “wrong.”
Capacity changes. Seasons change. The redesign is the work.
  • You don’t need to burn things down to move forward.
Sometimes the next step is simply choosing what fits better now.

For Enjoyment

I’ve been reading more literary fiction lately, and it’s reminded me how much clarity comes from slowing down the input. It's been changing how I think about decision-making (hence these shifts).

If you've been feeling mentally crowded, reading this genre of books may help you too!

One Thing for You

Just a reset question for you to answer.. "What am I pretending is working right now?" in other words, what is something you've been placing to the side that needs some work, but you haven't wanted to confront it yet?

P.S. If you're on Linkedin or Alignable and found my content useful to your journey, I would love your recommendations and feedback!

Feedback/Comment of the week: Adriana R. this is such a powerful reminder that showing up imperfectly still counts as growth.

I love how you named the freedom in doing something just for movement, joy, and presence, not performance.

There’s something grounding about reclaiming space outside of work and remembering who you are beyond the title.

What surprised you most about yourself once you finally stepped onto the court?
