What to track for growth

Happy hump day!

To follow up on my Sunday's newsletter about Revenue gaps, I want to talk about things to track that make getting revenue in business seem easier =).

Don't get me wrong, revenue matters. But when you focus too much on getting revenue, you get stuck in what I like to call the Growth wall. You want to build sustainable growth, and you do this by understanding what makes your business feel good to run.

Here are some things I currently track in my business that may help you as well:

Client feedback patterns - Not just testimonials, but the specific words they use when they're happy. What problems are they saying you solved? This tells you what you're actually good at (which might be different from what you think you're good at).

Repeat clients and referrals - These are your gold indicators. When clients come back or send their friends, that's a sign your process is working AND you're easy to work with.

Projects that felt smooth - Which projects flowed easily? What made them different? Sometimes the easiest projects are the most profitable, but we don't notice because we're too focused on the difficult ones.

Your energy levels - I know this sounds "woo-woo", but stick with me. Which types of work leave you energized vs. drained? Your energy is directly connected to your ability to serve clients well.

Time from inquiry to closed deal - When your sales process gets shorter, it usually means you're getting clearer about your value and better at communicating it.

So think and jot down about what is bringing you the most ease and revenue right now. These are the things you want more of.

When you find patterns in what's working, you can double down instead of just hoping the next client will be better than the last one.
